The Deaf Elementary School is the center of instruction for preschool through fifth grade.
At FSDB, preschool instruction focuses on developing students’ language and social skills, and listening behaviors.
Kindergarten through fifth grade students at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind follow Florida’s Sunshine State Standards. Students develop reading, language arts, social studies, and science and physical education skills.
The Deaf Elementary Department also offers a Suspended Curriculum in some classes. Students can focus on reading, language arts and mathematics throughout the entire school day. Ninety minutes of uninterrupted reading instruction is built in to each school day.
Teachers in the Deaf Elementary Department are certified in Elementary Education and Deaf Education. All Deaf Elementary participate in the Florida Reading Initiative, using quality reading strategies.

Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind is Florida's public boarding school for students who are sensory impaired. FSDB is fully accredited, and it is one of the programs of instruction available in the state of Florida to serve deaf, hard-of-hearing or blind students. Find out more
