We serve about 400 students from all departments. At Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, students receive 230 minutes of physical education per week, well above the state mandate of 150 minutes weekly.
During classes, students participate in individual and team sports, learning the fundamentals of the game and sportsmanship. They also learn the value of physical activity.
Each week, students participate in the Track Lap program. Here, they lap our quarter-mile track as many times as they can during the allotted time.
Students participate weekly in the Everyone is a Swimmer program to improve water safety and survival skills. They also gain confidence in swimming skills.
The main focus in the Physical Education department is to teach our students that a lifetime of fitness can also be fun.
