Administration

A seven-member Board of Trustees, appointed by the Governor of Florida, is the governing body of the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind. Day-to-day operation of the School is in the hands of those who serve as the School’s administration. The School has two principals and nine assistant principals.

Dr. Jeanne Glidden Prickett, President

Dr. Jeanne Glidden Prickett is the school’s 17th President with nearly 40 years of career experience in deaf/hard of hearing and blind/visually impaired education.

Dr. Prickett holds several degrees from Illinois State University to include a bachelor’s degree in education for the visually handicapped and elementary education; master’s degree in education for the hearing impaired; and doctorate degree in educational administration. She has also served on various committees and boards, including the Council Bluffs Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf Board of Directors.

As FSDB President, Dr. Prickett oversees all programs for more than 830 on-campus and outreach students and 600 employees, as well as legislative issues that affect them.

Mary Lou Hofmann-Sitten, Principal, Blind/Career Education and Transition Departments

An experienced classroom teacher and administrator, Ms. Hofmann-Sitten has served for more than 28 years at FSDB. Her experience has been in technology education as well as in curriculum.

Ms. Hofmann-Sitten holds multiple degrees from Boston College and the University of North Florida. As Principal, she oversees operations and makes decisions for the Blind/Career Education and Transition Departments.

Rebecca Hilding, Principal, Deaf Department

Ms. Rebecca Hilding has served for more than 20 years as a School Principal. She has significant administrative experience earned as Director of Vermont Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Inc. and the Charter School at the National Deaf Academy in Mount Dora, Florida, where she served as principal. She holds an MS in Deaf Education. As Principal, Ms. Hilding oversees operations and makes decisions for the Deaf Department.
