The Deaf Elementary, Deaf Middle, Blind Elementary, and Blind Middle Schools at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) have been identified as Title I schools. These schools receive federal Title I funding in addition to state funding. Title I programs emphasize parents as equal and important partners in every child’s education. There is information parents of these students need to know regarding Title I programming.
For several years FSDB has compiled all of this information into one convenient Title I Parent Handbook. Below are the links to the available sections of the 2016-2017 Title I handbooks for each of these schools. (The remaining sections and the completed handbooks will be posted as they become available)
Every handbook contains:
- An introduction to the Title I program and brief historical overview of this federal grant;
- A brief item outlining how Title I grant funds work toward school improvement, which is incorporated into each School Improvement Plan (SIP);
- A parent involvement section, which includes required parent notification as well as each school’s and LEA Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) outlining parent involvement goals and activities
- The Family-School Compact of agreements, which should be reviewed at home, signed by each child and parent, and then returned to school to their classroom teacher or Assistant Principal. Students will also sign this compact.
