Teenagers can take up a lot of space, and they expend a lot of energy and enthusiasm in their daily endeavors. Students in our High Schools are curious and inquisitive as they pursue their academic studies, interested in world affairs, engaged in wide variety of extracurricular activities, and committed to community service. Here at FSDB, they strive to do more, be more, and achieve more.
Our dedicated teaching faculty strive for academic excellence, and their willingness to work with each student goes far beyond traditional offerings. These offerings range from online learning and work experience opportunities to independent living skills development. Students also have the opportunities to take off campus courses at St. Augustine High School, First Coast Technical College, and St. Johns River State College.
High School students at FSDB benefit from raised academic expectations, individualized instructional opportunities afforded by small class sizes, opportunities for direct accessibility and communication provided by teaching staff members specifically trained to work with deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired students. Our curriculum enables graduates to be well prepared for and transition to the next level of study, whether these involve enrollment in a college or university, partaking in a technical or certificate program, or entry to competitive work.
Extracurricular activities include athletics and recreation programs, such as Academic Bowl (Gallaudet) competition, Close Up programs, Communication Contest (Optimist International), performing arts opportunities (Dance Troupe, N’Vision Band, and Outta Sight Band), Poetry Out Loud and SkillsUSA competitions, Student Councils, and yearbook clubs.
The rich academic programs offered in our High Schools, our diverse and welcoming community, and opportunities for extracurricular participation, provide students with the critical knowledge and skills needed for a lifetime of success.
