Summer Programs

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) offers three camp programs for students  each summer for students who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired, free of cost to Florida residents – proof of residency is required. Applicants must meet FSDB eligibility criteria. Upon acceptance, campers are required to undergo a camp physical. Campers will also be given a packing list, directions to FSDB, and additional camp specifics. Transportation is not provided.

The camp programs listed below were not available during the summer of 2016.

Summer Quest Camp

This one-week overnight camp is open to students age 8-14 who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired and reside in the state of Florida (non-FSDB students). Campers will explore the wonders of St. Augustine as it celebrates their 450th anniversary. Activities include local attractions and historical sites, as well as general recreational activities such as arts and crafts, kayaking, performing arts, swimming, team building activities and much more. The camp program is supervised 24 hours daily with provision of health care services as needed; meals in the school cafeteria and snacks are included. 

Summer Explorers Camp

This one-week overnight camp is open to students age 13-17 who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired and reside in the state of Florida (non-FSDB students). The camp is designed to discover St. Augustine on this the 450th anniversary of our wonderful city. Join your peers in learning about the flavor of the “Nation’s Oldest City.” We have a great week in store for you as you explore St. Augustine with new friends. Recreational activities will also be offered daily, such as arts and crafts, kayaking, swimming, performing arts, and team building/leadership. The camp program is supervised 24 hours daily with provision of health care services as needed; meals in the school cafeteria and snacks are included.

Summer Day Camp

This two-week day camp is open to deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired students, ages 5-12, who are currently enrolled at FSDB or reside in St. Johns County. Five year old applicants must have completed kindergarten before than can be signed up. Campers will enjoy a full schedule of activities such as arts and crafts, games, kayaking, swimming, team sports, and much more. The program runs daily from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm and includes lunch in the school cafeteria. Transportation is not provided.
