Dance Troupe Students Get First Time Opportunity to Dance with St. Augustine Dance Guild

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2011) – In a first-ever performance together, six students from the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind’s Dance Troupe are dancing side by side with the St. Augustine Dance Guild to perform a production called “Mosaics,” which is open to the public Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
The students who will be performing are Krissy Garcia-Santiago, Robin Spigner, Sarah Kimbley, Andy DeJesus, Chaz Elliott and Heath Humphrey.
“I am very excited,” said Humphrey when asked about how he felt about participating with the Dance Guild for the first time.
The students will perform a dance production that includes ballet, modern, jazz and African with about 20 Dance Guild members.
According to Chelsea Hilding, St. Augustine Dance Guild director, the organization is comprised of dance teachers from around the St. Augustine and Jacksonville areas.
“It’s a collaboration of different styles coming together,” she said. “When we put on shows there are different choreographers that will choreograph in their own styles and then other members will participate in them as dancers.”
Lia Ferrante, FSDB’s Dance Troupe dance teacher, said that the students are excited for the opportunity to be involved. “It’s a little bit different than what we do in our regular classes, but the kids all volunteered for it and wanted to participate and use their stage skills.”
Kimbley, one of the students performing, said she has been practicing for about a month and a half to ensure she has perfected her routine.
“I hope the audience enjoys our performance,” she said. “We hope to make them [the audience] laugh.”

The event for the public will be held on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, Kirk Auditorium. Tickets are $12 for students and $15 for general admission and can be paid by cash or check. Reservations can be made at (904) 671-5153.
The St. Augustine Dance Guild is scheduled to hold a rehearsal Sept. 30 at 12:45 p.m. in Kirk Auditorium open to FSDB students and staff only.
