FSDB 2011 Teacher of the Year and School Related Employee of the Year

Posted: 2/8/2011 in Announcements

On January 21st, FSDB honored the 2011-12 School Related Employee/Teachers of the Year with the help of two late-night legends. President Danny Hutto took the stage as Johnny Carson, and Behavioral Specialist Walt Davis was by his side as Ed McMahon. For one brief Friday afternoon, Kirk Memorial Auditorium was transformed into an extravagant and glamorous showcase worthy of true superstars; and make no mistake; this year’s honorees are indeed superstars.

The ceremony began with a short “mock-umentary” detailing the rise to fame of the “Iceberg”, the award given to recipients. Then, this year’s School Related Employee of the Year, Pam VanCampen was rewarded for her years of service, as Charlie Crozier told the audience the many reasons why she was chosen. Next, President Hutto called each Teacher of the Year honoree up one by one to join him on stage. Each was accompanied by the 2009-10 Teachers of the Year who had nothing but praise for this year’s winners. All the while, the show’s host and co-host kept the audience in stitches with their witty exchanges and comedic banter.

Finally, the moment came to announce the Overall Teacher of the Year. And who better to reveal the winner than the “all-seeing, all-knowing, all-telling, borderline mystical Carnac the Magnificent?” Donning his authentic Carnac hat and cape, President Hutto placed several envelopes to his forehead, each time predicting the answers despite having never before seen the questions. The final envelope held the identity of the FSDB 2010-11 Teacher of the Year. And the winner is…Lauren Fox, from the Deaf High School!

Congratulations to Lauren and to all of this year’s winners (see inset). The Employee Recognition Program was a truly exciting event, and the perfect way to show appreciation to those who help to make FSDB so special.
