St. Augustine, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2011) — The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind Campus Police Department, in partnership with the St. Augustine Police Department, is hosting a 12-hour women’s self defense class (RAD, Rape Aggression Defense systems) Oct. 12, 13, 19 and 20 here on campus. Each class is three hours long from 6 to 9 p.m.

Officer Michael Pate, FSDB law enforcement officer who will be assisting with the training, encouraged women to sign up for the class because of the invaluable skills that will be taught.

“The class will help develop and enhance self defense options for women so they may become viable considerations should they confront a potentially dangerous situation,” he said.

The self defense class, a beginner level class open to children 10 years of age and adults, will train participants on how to use momentum and leverage against an attacker and how to employ practical blocks and strikes.

Cost of the program is $25 or $35 for two.
