Homecoming Activities Kick Off Sept. 23

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Sept. 22, 2011) – Students of the Florida School for the Deaf and the Bind’s deaf department kick off the school’s Spirit Week and Homecoming activities Sept. 23.
“Homecoming is a fun-filled tradition where students get fired up with their school spirit,” said Brent Bechtold, FSDB Deaf High School Assistant Principal. “The students enjoy the competition among the classes for Spirit Week, including the various dress-up days and the challenge of using their creativity to express this year’s school theme of ‘All Dragons Learn to be Tomorrow’s Leaders’ in the skit night competition.”
The planned activities during the week feature themed dress-up days, a pep rally and skits by students.
The Homecoming King and Queen will also be crowned Sept. 28 at 7:45 p.m. during the Homecoming dance on campus. This year’s girls’ Homecoming court candidates are: Camilla Crump, Kristina Garcia-Santiago, Jeanne Marrero, Lakeisha McNair and Louisenie Philostin. The candidate’s for the boys are: John Dellatto, Derrick Lee, Neal Matthews, Riley Riojas and Justin Upson.
Homecoming will culminate with a football game against the Merritt Island Christian Cougars Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. Ticket cost for the game is $5 for any non-FSDB students and staff members.
The blind department is scheduled to host Homecoming Dec. 1-2.

Sept. 23-30 –Dress–up days to show school spirit
Sept. 27, 2 to 3 p.m. – Rehearsals for Homecoming Court
Sept. 28, 6 to 8 p.m. – Pep rally, skits and coronation; 8 to 10 p.m. – Homecoming dance for 9th-12th grade deaf high school students
Sept. 29, 7 p.m. – FSDB vs. Merritt Island Christian Homecoming football game
