Our Baseball Game Star

The Deaf Elementary School of the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind had a school-wide field trip to the Jacksonville Suns Baseball game on May 23. And now, student Cody Newsome is a star! Cody signed and sang Take Me out to the Ballgame during the famous seventh-inning stretch, leading thousands of fans and wowing the crowd.
Students in Deaf Elementary School have been learning the lyrics and practicing the song during their speech sessions. Their signing and singing impressed the school groups present for the Jacksonville Suns annual Celebrate Literacy game.
Cody’s grandfather was able to attend the game with us, and we were proud to celebrate this moment with him and his family.
Events like this require the collaboration and teamwork of our entire school, and we thank teachers, speech teachers, the reading specialist, and families for their support as students worked to show off their speech and signing skills.
Moments like this make us proud to be FSDB!
