Parent-Infant Training

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind’s Parent-Infant Program (PIP) offers intervention in a family’s natural environment and daily routines using nationally recognized curricula.

Additionally, we offer training to professionals in SKI-HI, INSITE, and VIISA. These were developed under Federal OSEP Grants to the SKI-HI Institute at Utah State University. All are widely recognized and used both nationally and internationally as family-centered early intervention programming models. Each model works in partnership with families, providing them the most current information and support relative to their child who is deaf and/or blind.

We train professionals for these three nationally recognized curriculum models:

  • VIISA – taught as two courses – birth to three home-based and three to five center-based; designed to address needs of families and other providers where the infant or young child has a vision loss
  • SKI-HI – for working with families where the infant or young child is deaf or hard-of-hearing
  • INSITE – for working with families where the child has a hearing and/or vision loss and additional disabilities

These training courses include two modules, each covering 2 three day weekends (Friday – Sunday).
