Food Services

What we do

  • Operate three kitchens and dining rooms serving our Deaf or Blind students and school staff.
  • Provide a student work-training program in the Dragon’s Lair, a retail food operation, as well as in the main kitchens.
  • Support the student Culinary Training program at FSDB.
  • Plan menus that meet the dietary guidelines for Americans as required by the Federal Government.
  • Serve modified diets upon medical order.
  • Accommodate religious diets to the extent possible.
  • Cater Special Event meals for students, staff, and guests.
  • Counsel and educate students in nutrition.
  • Promote healthy eating practices according to the Federal Healthy Meals for Americans Act.

Wellness policy

In response to the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, the school’s Wellness Committee planned, developed, and adopted a Wellness Policy.

Free and Reduced Price Program

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind offers free, healthy meals each school day. With parental assistance, FSDB may qualify for government reimbursement for some of the cost of providing a child’s meals.

Parents can help us in our efforts to increase the funding that FSDB receives so that we may better serve our children. We must receive this information. Please complete one of these forms:
