FSDB Students Garner Recognition at SkillsUSA; One Selected for National Competition

Competitive not only on the playing field but also in academic areas, FSDB students shine. Students in grades six through eight are welcome to participate in the annual Math Competition for Students with Hearing Loss at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York. FSDB’s team competes against other deaf and hard of hearing students from around the nation.
Our middle schoolers prepare to earn a place on the team by studiously reviewing materials from the MATHCOUNTS foundation. After months of early-morning and after-school practice sessions, coaches choose the lucky team members who will represent FSDB in the national event.
Team members and coaches travel to RIT for the event. The competition in Rochester is split into rounds. The rounds test mathematical accuracy early on, and progress through skills in mathematical reasoning and team problem solving.
We’re proud of our MATHCOUNTS team which has consistently brought home both individual and team medals!
