Outdoor Club

Developing an appreciation for nature and a respect for the environment propels the civic-minded Oja Outdoor Club on the campus of the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind.

The club takes advantage of the salt marsh and estuary that borders the campus. Students kayak and hike in proximity to the school under the direction of science instructor Mr. Shannon Lally.

The once-yearly weekend campout allows students to explore Florida’s natural landscape, and learn practical means of protecting Florida’s fragile ecosystems.

Activities of the Outdoor Club include:

  • Beach cleanup as community service
  • Orienteering
  • Frisbee competition
  • Nature hikes
